Mathaino is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young students in underserved communities in the US and abroad to achieve their full academic potential. The name "Mathaino" is derived from the Greek word Μαθαίνω, which means “I learn.”

Founded in 2010, Mathaino became an early advocate for Khan Academy, incorporating its innovative platform into after-school tutoring programs for underserved communities in New Jersey. This marked the beginning of a new era of personalized learning. In 2011, Mathaino expanded its efforts by joining Khan Academy's international initiative to localize the platform for Greece. Today, nearly 8,000 learners benefit from our Khan Academy Greek YouTube content in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. In 2021, our official Khan Academy website was launched, offering complete mathematics courses for elementary and middle school levels (Δημοτικό και Γυμνάσιο), providing students and teachers with a comprehensive solution that includes videos, articles, exercises, and progress-tracking tools to support mastery in math.

Living in an increasingly interdependent world offers both opportunities and challenges. Addressing those challenges requires teaching our young generation new approaches to learning and collaboration, so they can effectively lead and make the world a better place for all. Learning and education have to evolve too because they need to reflect the challenges of the global society into which young people are entering. In an era of big data and rapidly evolving new technologies, cognitive skills will continue to be important, but so will be social skills for collaboration and leadership, if we are to enjoy peace and prosperity. We will also need social and work equality, so that peoples from all cultures and races can and must contribute to our progress effectively.

As advances in online learning continue to evolve, students will be able to enjoy continuous access to knowledge and information, anytime, anywhere. However, a hands-on, immersive learning experience will be an increasingly important advantage for in-person education and innovation. Through the support of afterschool programs and technical innovations in teaching, Mathaino wants to open new pathways to learning. Whether it is about expanding our pool of teaching talent or use of technology that leads to a better learning experience for our students or tools for measuring student and teacher performance, we want to be part of that progress.

We believe we have an opportunity to shape the future in learning for many young generations to come. How we revolutionize learning shall benefit our students first, but the impact of these efforts should be felt around the communities and the world they will serve.

Our core team  is composed of engineers, educators, and academic experts with deep expertise in educational content development, early childhood pedagogy, and instructional design. We are dedicated to transforming education in Greece—and in the US when our time and resources permit—by improving both classroom and remote learning experiences. Together, we empower students and teachers to achieve their fullest potential.
